What is the route of the BMW Berlin Marathon
The Berlin Marathon is widely regarded as the fastest marathon in the world and has been the stage for numerous world records. The race starts on Straße des 17. Juni, between the Victory Column and the Brandenburg Gate, with wide, completely flat opening kilometers that allow runners to settle into race pace immediately.
The course passes many of Berlin's most famous landmarks, including Charlottenburg, Kurfürstendamm, Potsdamer Platz and Alexanderplatz. Long avenues, excellent road surfaces and gentle turns make it easy to maintain a smooth and consistent pace throughout almost the entire race.
One of the course's greatest strengths is its exceptionally flat profile, featuring almost no elevation gain, making it one of the best marathon routes in the world for setting a personal best. Wind can occasionally become a factor on some of the wider avenues, although the city's layout often provides good shelter.
The final kilometers lead runners back towards the heart of Berlin before reaching the race's most iconic moment: passing beneath the historic Brandenburg Gate. From there, only a few hundred completely flat meters remain to the finish line, making the Berlin Marathon one of the fastest and most unforgettable marathon experiences in the world.
